So, what’s a fashionista to wear in March?! This month is supposed to be in like a lion and out like a lamb, but here in Ithaca, it’s more like lamb ..  then lion … then giant-roving-pack-of-lions-tigers-and-bears! Luckily, we have this month’s model, Leona, to show us how a little creativity can help keep your wardrobe weather-appropriate.

Leona’s outfit centers around her sparkly Cherokee top (size 7/8, $4.50)  paired with Ralph Lauren tweed leggings (size 6, $5.50) and size 2 ankle boots by Tuffrider ($9.95.) She gets extra warmth from her Uniqlo heatec tee ($4.25,) Gap cream coat (size 8, $11.50) and Italian wool hat ($2.00.)

Once the weather finally warms up, Leona just swaps out her layers for Gap kids sparkle dot shorts (size 7, $5.50), a leather belt (Peace sign buckle not visible, $1.50) and European leather sandals (size 13, $9.95.)

You too can survive this month as fashionably as Leona. Just stop by the Goose for more styles that transcend seasons!

Meet Mitch, our February “Look of the Month” model. He and his mama Mariya (and Daddy Schuyler) stopped by the Goose to shop the sales we have going on this week. February, much like Mitch, is short and sweet – a great month to show off some of our favorite things, like the Ergo Carrier pictured above!  Mitch’s sweet ride is a barely-used Organic Green Zen Ergobaby (retails new for $140, on sale at the Goose for $95.) Mamas and babes love these stylish carriers!

Mitch chose to share the spotlight with another kind of model… model trains, that is! He had a grand old time with the Discovery Kids mini train table pictured to the left ($28, vehicles and helipad sold separately) and our large selection of Thomas the Tank Engine & Friends trains (prices range from $1-$5.)

Even a wardrobe change couldn’t distract Mitch from his train play. He made the perfect conductor in Gap overalls (size 2, $6.50), a Gap striped long-sleeved tee (size 2, $3.25), a fleece-lined hooded sweater (size 2, $9.95) and See Kai Run Dane high-tops in red plaid (size 6, $41.50.)

Meet Olivia and Charlie, our January “Look of the Month” models. Their sweet and sassy sisterly selves, dressed in snuggly Mama Goose garb show us that a bright new outfit can help you get through any January day!

Olivia’s Gymboree sweater dress (size 7, $8.95) is layered over an OshKosh tee (size 7, $2.50) and purple striped teggings* (size 7, $2.50.)  Her purple Bearpaw boots (size 2, $19.95) keep her feet toasty both indoors and out, and her adorable felted hair clip (model’s own, but $5-12 at MG) was made by her very own mama.  Charlie’s hooded dress (size 5, $11.95) and leggings (size 5, $4.95) are super soft Naartjie items that go great with her Livie & Luca boots (size 13, $23.95.). Once they decide to hunker down for the day, they can swap out their boots for cute clogs.

After the New Year’s Eve excitement wears off, the frigid temperatures and endless gray skies of January hang overhead as a constant reminder that there are still many, many winter months to come. How can it be? Mama Goose is a TEENAGER! While your kids have been busily growing, so has Mama Goose – and just as you’ve been loving the job of parenting, we have been loving the job of nurturing our little store! We thought we would take the occasion of our thirteen-year milestone to re-post our story. For those of you who haven’t had a chance to read the history of Mama Goose, here it is …

Shortly after she moved to Ithaca in December 2002, Kelly Moreland met fellow mama Michelle Stuhr at the preschool that both their young children attended. Within minutes of meeting each other, the two women found themselves talking about their respective dreams to open a children’s resale store. They both felt there was a niche to be filled, and had been dreaming about the kind of store where they would like to shop for their kids.

Kelly was passively working on a five year plan, but was inspired by Michelle’s energy and can-do attitude. They started meeting and envisioning, and decided to join forces and take the leap. Neither women had owned or managed a store, but soon adopted the motto, “Build it while you fly it”. Within a few months, Mama Goose opened its doors in a very charming, tiny (850 sq. ft) store at the corner of Seneca and Plain Streets in December of 2003. Thanks to Ithaca-area parents’ passion for reuse and their support of local business, Mama Goose took flight and grew quickly. In 2006, after the arrival of Michelle’s third child, Kelly purchased the business, becoming the sole owner. In 2008, Kelly moved the business one block west to its “forever home” at the corner of State and Corn Streets in Ithaca’s lively West End. Mama Goose is now more than four times its original size with plenty of room for your goslings to enjoy themselves and for you to shop with ease.

Meet Stella and August, our December “Look of the Month” models!

Stella is picture-perfect in a Perfectly Dressed holiday frock (size 12, $7.95) worn with Hanna Anderson tights (size 130, $1.95) and Xin Miao Mary Janes (size 4.5, $14.95.)  A 77 Kids plaid jacket (size 10, $12.95) keeps her warm and takes the outfit to the next level of pattern mixing.

Augie’s ensemble starts with a striped Children’s Place button-down (size 5/6, $3.25) and Gap Kids pants (size 6, $9.95.)  A Perfectly Dressed velveteen jacket (size 5, $7.95) and little-man-sized bow tie ($1.00) add a dash of dapper. Polo boots (size 12, $14.50) strike just the right balance between classy and cool.
